May 6, 2012 "Radical Obedience" Mark 3:20-35 |
May 6, 2012 |
| “Radical Obedience” Mark 3:20-35
Part 11 of Series “The Gospel of Mark” May 6, 2012
Key Verse: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11, NIV).
Opposition to God (spiritual warfare) comes from at least three areas:
1. The WORLD—it is external in nature (see 1 John 2:15-17).
2. The FLESH—it is internal in nature (see Rom. 7:15-25; Gal. 5:17).
3. The DEVIL—attacks can be both external or internal (see Acts 5:3; 2 Cor. 11:3; Luke 13:10-11). The Devil’s attacks are represented as “flaming arrows” (Eph. 6:16) or “accusations” (Rev. 12:10-11).
Today we experience spiritual warfare as STRONGHOLDS (see 2 Sam. 5:7; 2 Cor. 10:3-5).
Our Response to Spiritual Warfare is radical obedience through PRAYER and GOD’S WORD (see James 4:7-10; 1 Peter 5:8-10; Ephesians 6:10-18).
•When Satan whispers, “Can God really forgive you?” claim Romans 8:1-2.
•When the devil says, “Your situation is hopeless” claim Romans 8:8-9.
•When Satan says that grace and freedom justify our worldly license, claim Romans 8:13.
•When the enemy points to our suffering and says, “God cannot be trusted” we claim Romans 8:18.
•When Satan tempts us to believe that God is singling us out, claim Romans 8:22.
•If Satan says our trials are the end of us, we will claim Romans 8:28.
•When he shows us our weaknesses and throws the weapons of the world, we claim Romans 8:37-39.

(Eph. 3:8).
2. God wants us to enjoy FELLOWSHIP in the Holy Spirit—(Eph. 3:9;
Phil. 2:1).

April 1, 2012 "Triumph and Tears" Mark 11:1-11 |
April 1, 2012 |
| On Sunday we observed the theme of Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem which begins the Holy Week for Christians. The "palms" help us to remember how the people paid homage to Jesus as he entered the city. We also emphasized Jesus' "passion" of the week as he journeyed toward the cross. We acknowledged that the shouts of "Hosanna" that Jesus heard at the beginning of the week would change to "crucify, crucify" at the end of the week. |

March 4, 2012 |
| *There is a film clip from the movie "Up" at the 15:13 to 18:45 mark in the sermon audio. Since this clip doesn't have much dialogue and is more visual, you may wish to forward through that section.
Sermon Notes: The word “parable” means “to COME ALONGSIDE” and refers to a story that Jesus would tell to illustrate a spiritual truth. In today’s passage, Jesus teaches the people with three parables: 1) a wedding celebration; 2) patching an old garment; and 3) new wine in an old wineskin.
Takeaways from Jesus’ Teachings:
1. There are times when OLD WAYS have served their purpose.
2. It is important to honor and to care for TRADITIONS of the past.
3. We must not try to SQUEEZE the new into the old.
4. Only GOD can make all things new.

| Key Question: How can we “leave the broken, irreversible past in God’s hands, and step out into the invincible future with him?” (source below)
1. Clear out things that HINDER. “God requires an account of what is past” (Eccl. 3:15, NKJV).
2. PLAN for tomorrow’s harvest. “Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take” (Jer. 31:21, NIV).
3. Act daily out of God’s PROVISION. “His divine power has given us everything we need. . . .” (2 Peter 1:3, NIV).

We are reminded that we cannot separate Christmas from Easter. The birth of Christ is told in light of the death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus was born that we might have life to the full!
We ended with a thought provoking statement: "Have you ever thought that Jesus is the only gift you can give away and still keep?" --Christmas blessings, Pastor Bob Lee |
